I'm think I'm going to give it to my 12 year old cousin for her birthday in May. You get lots of different papers to be your fabrics, but we like looking through magazines and the newspaper for cool patterns too. I bought this for the 9 year old girl I watch and we've spent hours designing outfits together. It's a super fun kit.
I let her use my squeeze scrapbooking scissors.I was a little concerned that she might be too old for it, but some girls any younger might get frustrated trying to cut out the little details of the outfits-must be good with scissors. You do need a good pair of short pointed scissors. My 12 year old grandaughter "played" with this for hours Christmas afternoon. She loves it.
I didn't see her again until a couple months later and that's all she could talk about. I am now about to order a second one for my husband's sister who turned 12 recently. I bought this for my husband's nine-year old cousin for her birthday. Her mom told me that she played with it all the time and asked me where I got it. If you know a young lady who has some interest in fashion, I would highly recommend this. I knew she had expressed interest in fashion design and after a lot of research, I selected this to be her first attempt at doing it herself. I am so glad I did.
It was in excellent condition and I received it in a timely fashion. I purchased this item as a gift.
My daughter can spend hours making new designs. She is a very creative student. I think this item could be used by children/teens of all ages. Even though she is very intelligent it doesn't bore her at all.
I purchased this for my 13 year old daughter as one of her birthday gifts. When she has friends over they usually get the book out and create their own designs as well. However, keep in mind that they do need to have the ability to cut very well since the designs are cut out by the child, not punched out. She absolutely loves it.
It is nothing like a paper doll type of item. The book does have stencils to follow and cut out, but it also recommends to be creative and explains how to use different parts of the stencils to make additional types of clothing.I highly recommend this product for children who are interested in this type of activity. She designs the outfits and then puts them in a scrapbook to save her designs. She is very artistic and smart.
